Who Am I?
Over the years my practice has been focused on the human body, either my own or making a comment on our forms in this society. I take aspects of the human physique and create sculpture to relate to an idea, this could be influenced by the idea of space, displacement of space, bodies in relation to other bodies, how we see ourselves and how our minds are encased in this vessel and what that means. My work extends to ideas around the brain. How we retain information, memories and how this comes together and works.
I have found using recycled materials is a great way to experiment, creating pieces of work quickly but also the fact I am able to experiment more because of the availability. It gives me the option of only investing in ideas I feel express what I want. I have recently started using plaster as a form of easily casting objects. The idea that I can get copy after copy of objects in a relatively quick turnover. I have been experimenting with using the plaster for making moulds or using it to make solid objects. This has given me a new way of expressing the body by being able to cast the form realistically.
